Big Dipper Ice Cream coming to downtown Billings

Big Dipper Ice Cream, a popular Missoula ice cream parlor that was featured on “Good Morning America,” is coming to downtown Billings. The store will be jointly owned by Big Dipper founder Charlie Beaton and Bryan and Sarah Hickey. Bryan Hickey said they hope to start renovating their downtown location in October and open “ideally by Valentine’s Day 2015.” (more…) Continue Reading →

Book talk, ‘Wizard of Oz’ on tap at the Babcock

Robert K. Elder has 6-year-old twins, a boy and a girl, who’ve never been to Billings. So when Elder brings them to his hometown town this week and next, he’s planning to take them to all those places he visited as a kid — including Cody, Wyo., Yellowstone National Park and MontanaFair. Couple’s devotion proves that true love is patient

When Kenny Biggs left Townsend to join the Marines in 1945, he was carrying a snapshot of the girl he loved. She had had the photo taken at the state fair in Helena a year earlier, when she was just 14. In the photo she is a fair-skinned, dark-haired girl wearing lipstick and a tentative smile. Mobile missionary ‘reaching many people’

Dennis LaMotte’s Jeep, trailer, canoe and bicycle are all painted in camouflage green, but the paint wouldn’t hide it from the meter maids. That’s why he was looking to make change for a dollar when I ran into him Monday morning a couple of blocks east of the courthouse. He had to feed two meters to accommodate his mission on wheels.
