Just a week ago today I ran a story about the prep work being done for an “art alley” between the 3200 blocks of First and Second avenues north.
Artists organized by the Underground Culture Krew, a downtown art gallery and vendor of aerosol paint, started filling the walls—and doorways, utility boxes, dumpsters and any other blank spaces—Sunday afternoon. Most of the big spaces are already full of art, but the concept of the art alley is that it will evolve, meaning artists are free to modify or paint over existing art.
In addition to the Underground Culture Krew, project sponsors are the Downtown Billings Alliance’s Public Art Committee, owners of property on the alley—including Pug Mahon’s Irish Pub and the Good Earth Market—and Sherwin-Williams, the paint company.
And since the art work is subject to change or obliteration, I thought I’d better offer up a gallery of photos showing the initial round of paintings.
