Civil rights panel plans ‘bordertown’ forum in Hardin

Following up on a public forum held in Billings in 2016, the Montana Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights will hold a similar hearing in Hardin on Thursday, March 29. The event, officially billed as “A Community Forum on Bordertown Discrimination in Montana,” is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Hardin Middle School, 611 W. Fifth Street. ‘All of Montana is a border town,’ civil rights panel told

A civil rights panel conducted a hearing in Billings for nearly eight hours Monday on the subject of discrimination against Native Americans, and it heard nothing more vivid than the testimony of Sarah Beaumont. For 20 minutes, punctuated by fits of sobbing, Beaumont told of working for a major company in a good union job in Billings, and of having to endure, on an almost daily basis, hateful, hurtful remarks about Native Americans. Rights panel to look into ‘border town discrimination’

A series of panel discussions looking at “border town discrimination” against Native Americans will take place in Billings on Monday, Aug. 29.
