Red Lodge sisters respond to former prosecutor’s lawsuit

In their responses to a lawsuit filed against them by the former prosecutor for the city of Red Lodge, two sisters have filed counterclaims, saying that Joel Todd abused the legal system in an attempt to stifle legitimate public criticism. Todd filed his suit last month, accusing Diane Dimich, a member of the Red Lodge City Council, and her sister, Mary Cameron, the coordinator of the Carbon County DUI Task Force, of conspiracy, libel, slander and interference with a prospective business relationship. List of Montana’s priciest houses includes Red Lodge property

A real estate industry website, PropertyShark.com, recently compiled a list of the 10 most expensive homes for sale in Montana. The list includes properties in all the places you’d expect, including Whitefish, Flathead Lake and Big Sky. Unusually enough, the list even includes a home in Eastern Montana—if you consider Red Lodge part of Eastern Montana. Red Lodge chef honored again in James Beard contest

Michael Muirhead’s first brush with the James Beard Foundation Awards came in 1998. It was his first day on the job at the famed Spago restaurant in Beverly Hills, and he was hoping to meet the owner-chef, Wolfgang Puck. But Puck was not there that day. Old church rings with music at annual bluegrass service

If you walk out the front doors of St. Olaf Church 15 miles north of Red Lodge, you see the high peaks of the Beartooth Mountains spread out on the horizon. Nearer at hand you can trace the paths of Red Lodge Creek on your left and Volney Creek on your right, the two streams divided by an expanse of rolling, grass-covered hills. Farm families, most of them Norwegian, used to live up and down both creeks, and those Lutheran families founded St. Olaf in 1904, gathering in people’s houses until the church building was completed in 1921. Dogs, humans to gather in honor of ‘Walking Tom’

Thursday night, many of the people and the dogs who considered Tom Weaver their friend will take to the sidewalks on either side of Broadway in downtown Red Lodge, to mark Weaver’s death and to remember his life. “I was a pretty good friend of Tom’s,” Gordie Blevins said. “I’m not saying I was his best friend, but my dog was probably his best friend. Red Lodge mayor announces resignation as of June 29

Red Lodge Mayor Ed Williams announced Tuesday evening that he will be resigning as of June 29, one day before the the official last day of Police Chief Steve Hibler, who announced his resignation on April 6. Williams could not be reached for comment, but Diane Dimich, a member of Red Lodge Community Oversight Representatives, confirmed that the mayor announced his resignation shortly after the start of a 7 p.m. meeting of the Red Lodge City Council on Tuesday. Montana Preservation Road Show coming to Red Lodge

A variety of back-roads history tours and talks on historic preservation are on tap this week in Red Lodge, which is hosting the third Montana Preservation Road Show. Organized by the Montana Preservation Alliance and numerous other partners, the road show debuted in Dillon in 2012 and continued in Lewistown in 2014. This year, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the passage of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, the Red Lodge road show is expanding from three days to four to accommodate more speakers and day tours.
