A group working toward establishing a grocery store on Billings’ South Side met Thursday morning to talk about the next step in the process — conducting a market analysis of possible locations and what kind of store might work best. The analysis would also include five years of financial projections, including start-up costs, and a look at what other businesses might possibly co-locate with a new grocery store. If you’ve met Kathy Albertson, chances are you consider her a friend. The retired Billings cosmetologist knows how to make an impression. Like a talk show host, she’s unafraid to start up a conversation with anyone, and she knows how to keep that conversation going. (more…) Continue Reading →

Family members have been justices of the peace and started the Purple Cow restaurant. Continue Reading →

Billings voters in 2013 approved two new middle schools and renovations of two elementary schools in School District 2. Now, school supporters say, it’s time to add more staff. The Yes for Kids Ballot Initiative Committee kicked off its campaign for passage of a mill levy on Thursday at the Mansfield Health Education Center. Mail-in ballots for the May 3 election are expected to arrive in mailboxes on April 16. (more…) Continue Reading →
Mariah Bryant has seen a lot of troubles in her 15 years. She was mostly neglected by her parents, who were into drugs and alcohol, and when she was 6 her mother dropped her off at Mariah’s grandmother’s house and never came back. Mariah has suffered from depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder, and in school she was often subjected to bullying. Even so, she sounds surprisingly optimistic. “I hear other people’s stories and I feel pretty lucky,” she said. Continue Reading →
On the last day of February, Tahani Nelson needed help, and she thought she knew how to get it. She and her husband had moved back to Billings from Malta last summer and she had not yet found a primary care provider, but all she needed was a new prescription for Zoloft, to deal with the depression she had been diagnosed with at 18.
