Thanks to the success of this summer’s second annual Red Lodge Songwriter Festival, organizers of the festival recently donated $8,500 to the Red Lodge Public Schools Music Department. Festival co-founder and director Mike Booth said in a press release that the directors of the festival also donated $1,500 to Operation Second Chance, which helps heal wounded veterans through outdoor recreation. Voting is underway for the 17th annual Magic City Music Awards. It’s not just underway, it’s going gang-busters. Between the opening of voting, which was announced Tuesday morning on the MCMA Facebook page, and Friday morning, more than 1,700 people had already voted. He made the promise in spite of his love of politics, which he discovered as a sophomore at the University of Notre Dame. On Tuesday, the former well-site geologist and director of Five Valleys Land Trust entered Montana’s race for Congress, looking to win the seat currently occupied by freshman Rep. Greg Gianforte. Bill Cole and Jeff Essmann will square off in the general election after topping a field of seven candidates running for Billings mayor in the Tuesday primary. “I think the results say that Billings does not want to be Everywhere, U.S.A.,” Cole said after the polls closed at 8 p.m. and results were posted on the website of the Yellowstone County Elections office.
