In the blink of an eye, it’s suddenly the Year of Lasts

Moods

Here’s the good part: They can do things on their own now. At somewhere around 18 months, my triplet grandchildren can eat enough during the day not to be wakened by hunger at night. And if they do awake, you can whip up a quick bottle, not even warm it up, and extend it somewhere in the vicinity of the crib. Two little hands will snatch it out of yours and pull it into the darkness and you can go back to bed. (more…) Continue Reading →

Craig Lancaster: On the way out, looking back on Billings

Craig

I met Craig Lancaster almost as soon as he came to Billings nearly 12 years ago, shortly after he was hired to work at the Billings Gazette, where I’d already been for more than 15 years. Offbeat Billings history saved, posted on the web

Long

Vince Long recently completed a year-long deep dive into Billings history, and now he’s sharing the fruits of his labor on the internet. Those fruits consist of 980 hours and 13 minutes of random audio slices of Billings in the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s, though some of the trove also consists of national radio broadcasts recorded in Billings. (more…) Continue Reading →

Old-school guitar teacher finally calling it quits

Marion

Having taught music in Billings for 69 years, Marion Devitt recently decided it was time to quit. Accordingly, after she gives a few final guitar lessons on Monday, April 30,  Devitt Music Studios will close for good. “I really hate stopping teaching,” Devitt said. “I just got sick of everything that goes with it — the selling and everything.” (more…) Continue Reading →
