Downtown ArtWalk expanding to six events in 2018 season

ArtWalk Downtown Billings will have six events this coming season, up from the traditional five.

ArtWalk Downtown Billings will be hosting six events in its 24th season, beginning this April, ArtWalk Director Virginia Bryan announced Tuesday afternoon.

For the past 23 years, ArtWalk has presented five events a year.

“This is a big step for us, but it’s time,” Bryan said. “We are seeing larger crowds with every ArtWalk.  Regular attendees will have an easier time remembering an every-other-month schedule. The new schedule gives us an additional month in the the summer, which we hope will draw in tourists.”

The first event of 2018 will be on Friday, April 6, from 5 to 9 p.m. Events thereafter will be bi-monthly, on the first Fridays of June, August, October and December 2018 and February 2019.

Here’s another way to remember: ArtWalk has eliminated the May event and added events in April and June.  All other months on the past schedules are unchanged.

ArtWalk Downtown Billings was founded in 1994 with just a handful of participating artists and galleries. It grew steadily over the years, and in 2016 became affiliated with the Downtown Billings Alliance.

At the season-ending ArtWalk in November, there were more than three dozen season-member and one-time-participant locations.

And in addition to numerous opportunities to buy fine arts and fine crafts, ArtWalk has expanded to include gallery talks, dance, theater performances and opportunities to make art. Host sites include galleries, art studios, businesses, a downtown Billings church, non-profit entities and restaurants.
