Dennis Ulvestad
Dennis Ulvestad says he’s ready to make his fifth run for the Billings City Council.
In a press release from Lori Johnson, described as his campaign and public relations manager, Ulvestad said he will be running again in Ward 5. He ran for the same seat unsuccessfully every two years between 2009 and 2015.
Filing for city elections opens Thursday, with the mayoralty and five City Council seats up for grabs this year.
Ulvestad was born in Glasgow and moved to Billings with his family in 1957, graduating from Billings West High School in 1968. Soon after graduation, he was drafted into the Navy and served for two years during the Vietnam War, during which time “he achieved Secret Clearance and an E-4 Status,” the press release said.
After his service, he earned an associate degree in business management from Dawson Community College in Glendive. He was elected senior vice commander of the Veterans of Foreign War, Post 1634, for the past two years.
He has been active in city government for years, serving as co-chair of the Animal Control Board and currently serving on the City Zoning Commission. He also served as chair of the West End Task Force.
Ulvestad said his first priority if elected will be “to get a program in place for secondary streets snow removal, completing the greatly needed Inner Belt Loop & ensuring Priority Based Budgeting is used PROPERLY!”
Ulvestad and his wife were married for 27 years when she died in 2015. He has three children and 11 grandchildren.
