Gary Johnson
The Gary Johnson presidential campaign has opened a statewide office at 2624 Minnesota Ave. in Billings.
Johnson, the Libertarian candidate for president, has been running at about 9 percent to 15 percent in recent polls. With the two least popular candidates ever nominated by the major parties, Libertarians think this might be their year. Johnson must run at 15 percent in the polls to be included in presidential debates.
The Green Party also has been running national ads on cable news in support of their candidate, Jill Stein. A note on their website says, “The Green Party in Montana is slowly emerging from hibernation. If you’re interested in helping to start a local chapter where you live or a statewide party, drop us a note.”
Johnson is a former governor of New Mexico. He also was the Libertarian Party presidential candidate in 2012, winning 1 percent of the national vote. Former Massachusetts Gov. William Weld is his running mate.
Andrew Forcier, a frequent Last Best News commenter and a Libertarian candidate for the Montana Legislature, is the Montana outreach coordinator for the Johnson-Weld campaign. He says in a news release, “Yellowstone County will be a key focus of the campaign’s outreach activities, but that doesn’t mean you won’t see the Johnson/Weld banner all across the state. The team has already lined up outreach efforts at events in several major areas, and recently appeared at the Big Sky Country Fair in Bozeman.”
The Libertarian Party focuses on “fiscal conservatism, social tolerance, and military non-interventionism,” the news release says.
