Nisha Bellinger is one five MSUB faculty who will give presentations at the upcoming Showcasing Women\u2019s Scholarship event.<\/p><\/div>\n

Montana State University Billings scholars will talk about their current research in an accessible way during the second annual “Showcasing Women\u2019s Scholarship” event.<\/p>\n

The \u201cTED Talk\u201d-style presentations will be delivered\u00a0from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday in Liberal Arts Room 205.<\/p>\n

Sponsored by the Women\u2019s Faculty Caucus and supported by the Women\u2019s and Gender Studies Center, the program will feature faculty from a wide variety of disciplines. There will be time for questions and discussion following the presentations, along with a reception.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a great opportunity to celebrate and feature some of the important work that faculty are doing at MSUB and gives both the campus and the community an opportunity to discuss new ideas and projects,\u201d said\u00a0Jennifer Lynn, an assistant professor in the Department of History and director of the Women\u2019s and Gender Studies Center.<\/p>\n

The event, she said, also \u201ccelebrates Women\u2019s History Month and women\u2019s contributions to the production of knowledge. Moreover, this event is particularly unique because short presentations give the audience an overview of the exciting research that women are doing at MSUB in an accessible way.\u201d<\/p>\n

The program includes five of the university’s women\u00a0scholars:<\/p>\n

\u2666 Nisha Bellinger, assistant professor in the Department of Social Sciences and Cultural Studies, will speak on \u201cThe Consequences of the Centripetal Turn in the Asia-Pacific.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2666\u00a0Melissa Boehm, assistant professor in the Department of Communication and Theatre, will discuss a recent project, \u201cThe Framing of Health and Poverty in Appalachia in the New York Times: A Textual Analysis.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2666\u00a0Ana Diaz, assistant professor of philosophy, will explore, \u201cThe Problem of Mental Causation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2666\u00a0Lynn George, assistant professor in the Department of Biological and Physical Sciences, will talk\u00a0about \u201cDeciphering a secondary genetic code in neurons: the role of codon bias and Elongator in neurological disease.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2666\u00a0Jennifer Lynn will discuss “Tractor Frauen and Working Mothers: Images of Women in the East German Press.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cConvening this event is an important function of the Women\u2019s Faculty Caucus,” Boehm said. “We want to bring the campus community and the Billings community together with these ongoing discussions.”<\/p>\n

Attendees will also receive a program that summarizes the speaker\u2019s topic and their biography, giving the campus community a chance to get to know faculty members.\u00a0The event is free and open to all.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
