{"id":16749,"date":"2017-03-22T15:18:42","date_gmt":"2017-03-22T21:18:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lastbestnews.com\/site\/?p=16749"},"modified":"2017-03-22T15:18:42","modified_gmt":"2017-03-22T21:18:42","slug":"history-grants-go-to-adams-hotel-other-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/montana-mint.com\/lastbestnews\/2017\/03\/history-grants-go-to-adams-hotel-other-projects\/","title":{"rendered":"History grants go to Adams Hotel, other projects"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_16750\"  class=\"wp-caption module image alignleft\" style=\"max-width: 336px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"addboard wp-image-16750 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/lastbestnews.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/Adams-Hitel.png\" alt=\"Adams\" width=\"336\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Friends of the Historic Adams Hotel in Lavina was among 28 projects and organizations to receive grants this year from the Montana History Foundation.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Montana History Foundation announced the awarding of grants totaling $117,000 on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our grant recipients are new and unique every year,\u201d MHF President and CEO Charlene Porsild said in a press release. \u201cWe are so proud to support projects from Libby to Ekalaka and all points in between this year ranging from interpretive signage of outdoor exhibits to curation of dinosaur fossils to restoration work on a log cabin or an historic hotel.\u201d<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>One &#8220;standout&#8221; recipient, the release continued, is the Crow Language Consortium Dictionary Project in Hardin, whose goal is design, review and publish\u00a0the first professionally produced Crow dictionary.<\/p>\n<p>The Crow language is classified as &#8220;definitely endangered,&#8221; the foundation said, with a 60 percent decline in school-age speakers of Crow between 1969 and 2002. That project was awarded $5,000 by the Helena-based foundation.<\/p>\n<p>Other $5,000 recipients include the historic Adams Hotel in Lavina and the Carter County Museum in Ekalaka, whose annual &#8220;Dino Shindig&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/lastbestnews.com\/site\/2017\/03\/ekalakas-dino-shindig-wins-honors-at-tourism-conference\/\">was named the Event of the Year<\/a> during last week&#8217;s Governor&#8217;s Conference on Tourism and Recreation.<\/p>\n<p><div class=\"well\"><div class=\"dfad dfad_pos_1 dfad_first\" id=\"_ad_652\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/mjhWkW\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/lastbestnews.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/201703_capeair_variable.jpg\" alt=\"CapreAir_Variable\" width=\"510\" height=\"180\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-18069\" \/><\/a><\/div><\/div>&#8220;It is our mission to support projects large and small,&#8221; Porsild said. &#8220;And this year&#8217;s winners really reflect the quality of preservation work being accomplished across the state.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Montana History Foundation, established in 1985, is an independent, not-for-profit corporation that works to preserve the legacy of Montana&#8217;s past. Here&#8217;s a complete list of winning projects:<\/p>\n<h5>Billings region<\/h5>\n<p>\u2666 Friends of the Historic Adams Hotel, Lavina, Golden Valley County, $5,000 for repairs to the foundation and basement, plus the work of a structural engineer.<\/p>\n<p>\u2666 Lewistown Historic Resources Commission, Fergus County, $3,000 for the preservation of Lewistown cemeteries, mausoleums and gravestones.<\/p>\n<p>\u2666 Carter County Museum, Ekalaka, $5,000 for rehousing museum collections.<\/p>\n<p>\u2666 Upper Musselshell Museum, Harlowton, Wheatland County, $1,080 for military clothing protection and photo media supplies.<\/p>\n<p>\u2666 Western Heritage Center, Billings, Yellowstone County, $850 for photograph collections.<\/p>\n<p>\u2666 Billings Preservation Society Inc.\/Moss Mansion Museum, Billings, $5,000 for Moss Mansion Museum research and development new self-guided tours.<\/p>\n<p>\u2666 Crow Language Consortium, Hardin, Big Horn County, $5,000 for Crow Dictionary project.<\/p>\n<h5>Elsewhere in Montana<\/h5>\n<p>\u2666 Belt Theater Company, Cascade County, $5,000 for replacing the theater&#8217;s rear pedestrian bridge to Butte Street.<\/p>\n<p>\u2666 C.M.
