A federal judge has cleared the way for Billings woman’s wrongful termination lawsuit against St. Vincent Healthcare. In ruling issued Friday, U.S. District Court Judge Susan Watters granted one motion for summary judgment filed by St. Vincent but denied all its other claims, allowing Roxanna Jackson’s lawsuit against the hospital to proceed to trial. Parents in Crow reservation death still seeking justice

Since the death of their son Steven Bearcrane-Cole on the Crow Indian Reservation in 2005, Cletus and Earline Cole have fought for the justice they feel their son deserves. They continue to believe that there was compelling evidence of murder, and that his death was never investigated properly by federal agents in charge of dealing with serious crimes on the reservation. Another suit filed over oilfield death, more cases to follow

The family of a Sidney man who was found dead near the oil storage tank he was inspecting near Keene, N.D., has filed a lawsuit in federal court in Billings, blaming the death of Blaine Otto on the negligence of the company that owned the oil well. The same attorney who filed that suit represented Dustin Bergsing, a 21-year-old oilfield worker from Edgar, Mont., who died under similar circumstances, and whose family reached a confidential settlement with Marathon Oil in 2013. The terms of that settlement were not disclosed, but a pretrial statement said a computation of damages put the value of the case “in the seven-figure range.” (more…) Continue Reading →
