It looks like the presidential election might be over already. Thank God. But the creatures that spawned the Creature from the Reality TV Lagoon are likely to be with us for a while yet. I refer to the lords of talk radio, whose unrelenting sledgehammer attacks on conventional governance finally coughed up presidential candidate Donald J. Trump. He has been, sure enough, unconventional. Continue Reading →

An absent Hitchens looms over Babcock appearance

It was Larry Alex Taunton’s show, but the Babcock Theater stage was dominated Thursday night by the man who wasn’t there: Christopher Hitchens. Hitchens, a noted author, journalist and enemy of religion, is the subject of Taunton’s new book, “The Faith of Christopher Hitchens: The Restless Soul of the World’s Most Notorious Atheist.” The book won’t be officially released until April 12, but Taunton previewed the book before about 75 people in the theater where he and Hitchens debated in 2010. Outside agitators like the president must be to blame. (more…) Continue Reading →

Jonathan Gruber got himself—and the Obama administration—into trouble last week when a tape surfaced in which he referred to the “stupidity of the American voter.”
The context made it worse. Mr. Gruber, an economist at MIT who had a hand in writing the Affordable Care Act, praised lack of transparency about the bill and said that it was written in a “tortured way” so the Congressional Budget Office would not score the individual mandate as a tax.
