Stephen Aaberg had already done a fair amount of research at the First Peoples Buffalo Jump State Park near Great Falls when he was hired to do a systematic survey of the area in 2008 for the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks. It was known from earlier research that it was an important place, one of the largest “bison mass procurement sites” in North America. But after just a couple of days of surveying, Aaberg, assisted by a crew of five or six workers and a few volunteers, realized the site was even more significant than anyone had previously suspected. Senate Bill 143 appears to be dead. Fortunately, the students it aimed to protect are still alive. After passing the Montana Senate in February, the bill failed, 49-51, on second reading Monday in the House. SB 143, introduced by Sen. Study says Meth Project less effective than advertised

A recently published study has found that in eight states where the Meth Project anti-methamphetamine advertising campaign has been used, there is little evidence that the campaigns had any effect on meth use among high school students. The study did find, however, that there was “some evidence” that the Meth Project may have decreased meth use among white high school students. (more…) Continue Reading →

BRIDGER — Marguerite Jodry was majoring in music at the University of Montana when she found her way into the local food movement. She worked in Sheridan, Wyo., on an AmeriCorps-VISTA food project, then worked as an intern at the Amaltheia Organic Dairy in Belgrade, where she arrived amid the kidding season. “I was a goat midwife,” she said.
