Members look to future as Good Earth co-op dissolves

The Good Earth Market is officially defunct. At a special meeting Thursday at the cooperative grocery store and deli in downtown Billings, members present voted 89 to 10 to dissolve the co-op, which had debts of more than $500,000 at mid-month, and assets of about about $150,000. Chilly start, beautiful day for Montana Women’s Run

Once the runners, walkers and strollers started moving, Saturday’s chilly breeze became an afterthought for participants in the 36th annual Montana Women’s Run. The event, which started in 1982 in Pioneer Park, now takes over downtown Billings on the day before Mother’s Day. Participants in the 5-mile run/walk started at 8 a.m. and the 2-milers took off at 9 a.m.

One Big Sky Center gets council nod to take next step

One Big Sky Center, a proposed development that would create the tallest building in Montana as the centerpiece of a $165 million project in downtown Billings, won the grudging support of the City Council Monday night. On a 6-2 vote, with two absences and one abstention, the council approved a memorandum of understanding with the project developers, giving them until June 30 to work with city staff and the city’s legal and financial consultants to come up with a final development agreement. Roundup artist finishes portrait of ‘Angel of Downtown’

When I wrote a few days ago about the passing of Dwight Raup, I mentioned that Coila Evans, an artist in Roundup, was working on a portrait of Dwight. Her finished project is at left, and here’s a tribute to Dwight, whom she called “the Angel of Downtown,” that Coila posted on her Facebook page:
“I always looked for and looked forward to seeing Dwight when I went downtown… I find myself still looking forward to seeing him every day in the studio.
