This guest opinion was written by Bonnie Martinell, who farms near Belfry. This month the Montana Board of Oil and Gas Conservation decided not to make rules regarding setbacks of oil wells from occupied buildings. Also this month, a group of my neighbors and I appealed to the Montana Supreme Court to overrule the Carbon County Commission and allow us to protect our properties against unregulated oil and gas drilling in the only way possible in Montana, through citizen-initiated zoning.
