Christmas came a day early for Kiki. On Christmas Eve, the 16-year-old sophomore at Billings Senior High School brought home Zarah, a Bichon Frise puppy that was born on Oct. 29. The impossibly cute little dog won’t be just a pet, though. She will also be Kiki’s emotional support and service dog, mainly helping Kiki deal with chronic depression and “really bad anxiety.” Continue Reading →

Prairie Lights: Election Day really was better back when

Election Day used to be a lot more fun, and I’m not just talking about the choices we had at the top of the ballot. On the Sunday when the raid that killed Osama Bin Laden was launched, Jon Darby walked into work thinking that U.S. intelligence knew right where Bin Laden was. But he wouldn’t have bet his salary on it, he said here Wednesday, much less his presidency. President Obama’s decision to launch the raid in the face of uncertainty was typical of the tough calls U.S. policy makers have to make with limited and possibly faulty intelligence. Former Billings athlete shatters beer-mile record

Chris Kimbrough, formerly a star athlete at Billings Senior High and Rocky Mountain College, has done us proud. Last week, she set a new women’s beer-mile world record with a time of 6:28.6 in her first attempt at the event. That means she ran four laps around a track, having drunk a beer before each lap. She shaved 13 seconds off the old record. Did we mention that she is 44 years old and has six children? Continue Reading →
