Couples’ complaint accuses Reed Point school of bias

Two Native American couples who say they were insulted and discriminated against at a basketball game in Reed Point early in 2017 intend to file lawsuit against the Reed Point School on Monday. A press release from the Montana chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, which went out Friday morning, said the ACLU had filed the suit on behalf of the couples in Stillwater County District Court, but a clerk there said nothing had been filed yet. ACLU sponsors ‘Lives of Others’ showing

When the American Civil Liberties Union of Montana was planning a film and discussion for tonight, the major concern for this year appeared to be criminal justice. But with the election of President Donald Trump in November, the ACLU’s list of concerns quickly expanded to include increased attention to immigration rights, voting rights and rights of the LGBT community. Parents’ chilling story brings reality of racism home

The ACLU of Montana’s new indigenous justice outreach coordinator was the main speaker at a forum in Billings Thursday night, but it was a couple from Pryor whose chilling story captivated those in attendance. Meg Singer, a member of the Navajo Nation who earned a degree in Native American studies from Montana State University Bozeman, was hired for the new American Civil Liberties Union position last September. Billings Police Chief Rich St. John and longtime activist Eran Thompson agree on one thing: Billings needs more cops. They both see true community policing, which gives cops a chance to interact in a meaningful way with the people they serve, as the best way to close the divisions separating communities and police departments across the country.
