We cannot say for certain, but we are willing to bet that a Montana Supreme Court opinion issued Tuesday was the first one ever to bolster its conclusions by referencing the rapper Notorious B.I.G., the hip-hop group N.W.A. and two popular crime dramas, “The Wire” and “Scarface.” The opinion was written by Justice James Shea in an appeal of a Ravalli County District Court ruling in a case involving methamphetamine possession. The appeal was filed by Bruce Anthony Glass, who was handed a five-year sentence on Nov. 19, 2015. The basis of Glass’s appeal was a claim of double jeopardy. Continue Reading →

Colstrip teen named ‘student of the year’ by national group

More than 45,000 students in 25 states and Puerto Rico are members of the Business Professionals of America this year. Just eight of those students were from Colstrip High School, and one of them, 18-year-old Bailey Quin Menahan, recently won the organization’s first ever Secondary Student of the Year Award. Yellowstone snow coaches switching from tracks to tires

CODY, WYO. — Heavy spring snowfall this week caused Yellowstone National Park managers to temporarily close some entrances, and motorists in parts of the park were told snow tires were required for entry. But having the right tires for snow in Yellowstone isn’t just an unexpected issue for some spring travelers—it’s also shaping up to be one of the biggest changes to winter travel in the park in years. Beartooth Electric: The little co-op that could, and did

The trustees of the Beartooth Electric Cooperative recently informed members that they would see an average reduction of 5 percent in their electric bills starting July 1. That’s notable in itself, but it follows three other rate reductions totaling 20 percent over the past two years. Gianforte favors review of Upper Missouri River Breaks

Republican congressional candidate Greg Gianforte on Sunday endorsed the Trump administration’s ordered review of all 100,000-acre-plus national monuments designated since 1996, including Montana’s Upper Missouri River Breaks. “There was a lot of confrontation with local landowners” when the Breaks was protected as a national monument, Gianforte said during a Q&A on Montana Television Network’s “Face the State” program.
