Parking garage, skybridge would serve Stillwater Building

Plans are underway to build a six-level, 430-stall parking garage across the street from the former James F. Battin federal courthouse, now known as the Stillwater Building. The announcement was made Wednesday afternoon by Eggart Engineering and Construction, the Billings contractor renovating the old courthouse at 316 N. 26th St. on behalf of the building’s owners, WC Commercial LLC, out of Alaska. Her impression of Montana was stereotypical at best  — a third-world state far removed from economic prosperity. Kicking off the Montana High Tech Jobs Summit on Monday, Daines, now a U.S. senator representing the state, said times have changed. Workers rush to save Glacier chalet before winter comes

In a race against winter they’re determined not to lose, 10 workers are camped in Glacier National Park’s backcountry, rushing to stabilize the burned-out shell of Sperry Chalet before it is buried beneath the snow. The work is privately funded through donations to the Glacier National Park Conservancy’s Sperry Action Fund, created the day after a wildfire overran the 103-year-old chalet on Aug. 31. Rocky students lead the way in Montana turtle study

Six years ago, during a walk along the Yellowstone River, I caught a glimpse of something I had never seen before. It was obviously a turtle, but with a shell unlike any I had ever seen before — a shell that looked like a pancake. One second this beautiful creature was there, sunning itself on a muddy beach, and then the next all I saw were ripples where it slid into the water to escape me. I found out later it was a spiny softshell turtle – a shy, elusive reptile that is found in the river systems of southeast Montana and about which wildlife biologists know little. Major food-processing plant to be built near Great Falls

A massive agri-business commercial food park that will eventually employ an estimated 3,000 people is planned for Cascade County near Great Falls. Fall enrollment at MSU Billings up over last year

Enrollment is up at Montana State University Billings this fall semester. MSUB announced Wednesday that as of its official 15th class-day count, 4,401 students are enrolled, up slightly from the headcount of 4,366 students in fall 2016.  Of the 4,401 students, 2,830 are at University Campus and 1,571 are at City College. One Big Sky Center could get larger, developer says

The Billings City Council heard a brief update Monday night from the president of the company that has taken the lead on a proposal to build a multimillion-dollar project in downtown Billings —which could be larger than originally planned. Bob Dunn, president of the Hammes Co., didn’t have much new information to share Monday, but he did say the partners involved in the One Big Sky Center would have a “concept development plan” done in November.
