Secluded cabin deepens appreciation of familiar river

Shortly after we arrived at our cabin on the Yellowstone River outside Park City on Saturday afternoon, my wife and I went for a short walk. Lisa and I strolled along the riverbank and then poked around an upstream island reached by a narrow, dry channel before heading back to the cabin. Hardin jail—at long last—is open, slowly expanding

HARDIN — Seven years after it was built, the Hardin jail is finally up and running, with a slowly expanding roster of inmates. Warden Kenneth Keller said the head count was 56 on Friday, all of them prisoners committed by the Bureau of Indian Affairs or from individual Indian tribes in Montana, North Dakota and Wyoming. House debate unlikely to have swayed many voters

If the purpose of a political debate is to change voters’ minds, then Monday’s U.S. House debate at Montana State University Billings was a clear draw. HARDIN — I went down to Hardin Thursday to rendezvous with a trio of bankers from Little Horn State Bank. The four of us then went to see Brett Nedens’ enormous new beet harvester. Former bar owner salvages life’s work one item at a time

BRIDGER — A patio table in Shirley Smith’s backyard is covered with soot-blackened artifacts, including a set of antique handcuffs, an old fig syrup bottle and a partially melted saddle bronc trophy from a rodeo in Malta.
