Ed Kemmick

Ed Kemmick has been a newspaper reporter, editor and columnist since 1980. Except for four years in his home state of Minnesota, he has spent his entire journalism career in Montana, working in Missoula, Anaconda, Butte and Billings. "The Big Sky, By and By," a collection of some of his newspaper stories and columns, plus a few essays and one short story, was published in 2011.

On the afternoon of Wednesday, Oct. 11, Billings mayoral candidates Bill Cole and Jeff Essmann sat down in a conference room in the Billings Public Library to field questions from Last Best News partners Ed Kemmick and David Crisp. Long-struggling Good Earth Market likely to close soon

Stopping in for lunch at the Good Earth Market on Tuesday, Joanette Wagner learned that the place where she eats at least four days a week and does 95 percent of her grocery shopping will most likely close soon. “It wasn’t entirely unexpected … but it’s just disappointing that our town can’t support a store like this,” Wagner said. Surprise guests a big hit at Magic City Music Awards

In an awards show packed with youthful energy and frenetic performances, the hit of the night at the 17th annual Magic City Music Awards on Sunday might have been Norrine “The Outlaw Queen” Linderman, who’s been performing in the Billings area since the late 1940s. Linderman, winner of last year’s Freeman Lacy Award, created to recognize musicians with a long history of contributing to the Billings music scene, was just well enough to pick up her award last year, but too ill to sing. ‘Off-the-shelf wetlands’ firm poised for worldwide growth

SHEPHERD — Since founding Floating Island International 12 years ago, Bruce Kania has achieved a lot of milestones. More than 7,000 of his man-made islands — he likes to call them “off-the-shelf wetlands” — have been sold around the world. He holds “a couple dozen” patents related to the floating island technology and he has six licensed manufacturers — three in the United States and one each in China, New Zealand the United Kingdom — making his patented BioHaven-brand islands. Parking garage, skybridge would serve Stillwater Building

Plans are underway to build a six-level, 430-stall parking garage across the street from the former James F. Battin federal courthouse, now known as the Stillwater Building. The announcement was made Wednesday afternoon by Eggart Engineering and Construction, the Billings contractor renovating the old courthouse at 316 N. 26th St. on behalf of the building’s owners, WC Commercial LLC, out of Alaska.
