Jalan Crossland will perform on June 23, when a series of summer concerts kicks off in Harlowton.

A new organization called the Harlo Music Project will be staging four concerts in Harlowton this summer, with the opening show scheduled for Saturday, June 23.

The co-headliners for the first show will be Jalan Crossland, the Ten Sleep, Wyoming, troubadour with unparalleled picking skills on guitar and banjo, and the Dodgy Mountain Men, a stompgrass band out of Missoula.

Each concert will begin at 5 p.m. on Main Street (Central Avenue South) in Harlo, with two performers at each show. Food and drink vendors will be on hand, and for those wishing to spend the night, Chief Joseph Park offers several RV spots and ample tent camping.

Crossland has been hailed by audiences, critics and his musical peers, renowned as a  premier acoustic guitarist and banjo player, a singer-songwriter and an engaging showman.

Marcus Huff, writing in Laramie Zine, said of him: “To pin any one label on Crossland’s body of work would be a crime. His characters and stories come alive to form an often dark, yet highly humorous interpretation of the American Experience.”

Dodgy Mountain Men is known for mixing bluegrass rhythms with the soul of the blues and the energy of rock ‘n’ roll, and combining that with a plethora of other musical traditions to create a unique electro-acoustic experience.

The second show is on Saturday, July 21, featuring Red Lodge’s Satsang, together with Billings locals Wes Urbaniak and the WatR Machine. The third show, set for Aug. 18, will feature King Cardinal, a band out of Denver, and the Dusty Pockets, a Bozeman band that features Billings native Matt Rogers on lead guitar. Performers for the final show, on Sept. 8, will be announced soon.

The concerts are funded solely by sponsorships and ticket sales, and as a new project, HMP is starting from scratch financially. You can follow the Harlo Music Project and stay up to date on event information by checking out its Facebook and Instagram pages.

All tickets are $15 and can be purchased online at ticketriver.com, at Gally’s Brewing Company in Harlowton, or at the gate. For sponsorship inquiries or any event-related questions, contact Kendra at kgalahan@gmail.com.
