Chuck Tooley
Former Billings Mayor Chuck Tooley has been elected chairman of the board of the Burton K. Wheeler Center for Public Policy.
A press release from the center, located on the campus of Montana State University in Bozeman, said Tooley is the first chair from Billings. Besides have been Billings mayor, Tooley is a former president of the Montana League of Cities and Towns and he is currently a board member of Big Sky Economic Development Authority and a trustee of Rocky Mountain College.
“Chuck brings diverse experience to the position,” Bradley Snow, immediate past chairman of the Wheeler center board, said in the release. “He is a visionary leader who possesses a rare knack for bringing people together. He will provide the Wheeler center with excellent leadership for years to come.”
“The core values of the Wheeler center resonate with me,” Tooley said. “We address Montana issues in forums where various and even opposing views are discussed with courtesy and respect. In the increasingly contentious atmosphere in America today, the Wheeler center will continue to model civil deliberations as an example for others.”
The center was founded in 1988 to honor Burton K. Wheeler, a long-time U.S. senator from Montana. A major figure in American politics, Wheeler believed enlightened discussions of public policy are the cornerstone of democracy.
