Elections administrator to speak at LWV lunch

Yellowstone County Elections Administrator Bret Rutherford will talk about voter participation in the county during a League of Women Voters lunch meeting on Thursday, March 1.

Rutherford will also talk about changes made by the Legislature and deadlines for voter registration in upcoming elections, and he will will answer questions from the audience.

Rutherford has been the elections administrator since 2010, having worked in the office for five years before that. A graduate of Billings West High School and the University of Montana, he has a degree in business administration. Three permanent employees supervise elections, with temporary workers joining the force in election years. The office supervises all school, primary and general elections. Yellowstone County has 94,000 registered voters, of whom 15,000 are inactive.

The presentation will be at noon and is free and open to the public at the Elks Club, 934 Lewis Ave. Before the program, a lunch is available at 11:30 for $10. The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan organization seeking to encourage voter participation and discussion of issues.
