The first time we threw a fundraiser for Last Best News, back in February 2016, it was so much fun that we decided to make it an annual event.
So we threw another one last April, again at the Yellowstone Valley Brewing Co.’s Garage Pub. And that was so much fun that a lot of people said we really ought to have one every six months or so.
They really did. We’re not just saying so, in the manner of politicians who swear they’re running for office because they were urged to do so by multitudes of people.
Anyway, because Last Best News is nothing if not responsive to its readers, we are indeed throwing another fundraising party, this one set for Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Garage Pub, 2123 First Ave. N. The music will start sometime around 4:30 p.m. and end sometime around 8 p.m.
And there will be lots of music. Ryan Kabeary, a fine singer-songwriter and guitarist, will open the show, followed by the Grant Jones Trio, featuring Jones on guitar and vocals, backed up by Phil Griffin on bass and Keller Paulson on drums. They might have a surprise guest, too.
After that, you’ll hear from The Peach Pickers, featuring your Last Best News correspondent and his brother, John Kemmick, plus Ron Schuster, Bob Brown, Steve Brown and Pat Rogers. The Peach Pickers will be joined by special guests A.J. Sheble, formerly of the Henge, and Jessica Lechner, recently named female vocalist of the year at the Magic City Music Awards.
As we have been saying in our advertising materials, this event gives you the rare opportunity to support independent journalism, drink beer and listen to music — all at the same time!
We should have mentioned that you can also drink superb cocktails made with gin and vodka produced at the Spirit of Montana Distilling attached to the Garage. We’ll also have a food truck on hand — The Meat Shack BBQ.
The cover charge at the door will be $7, with all proceeds going to support Last Best News. Hope to see you there.
