Two Bit Franks will be performing this coming Friday at Harper & Madison in Billings.
Two Bit Franks, a Bozeman-based acoustic bluegrass and Americana four-piece band that has played in shows all over the region, will be performing in Billings on Friday, April 21.
The concert will be at Harper & Madison, 3115 10th Ave. N. The music will run from 7 to 9 p.m., but there will be a no-host cocktail hour starting at 6, with wine, beer and handcrafted cocktails from the Edgar Bar. Seating is limited to 50 seats.
Two Bit Franks features John Lowell on guitar and vocals, Tom Murphy on mandolin and vocals, Jeff Shouse on banjo and special guest Wes Horton on standup bass. They will present a relaxed set of original, traditional and obscure music.
The members of Two Bit Franks have collectively and individually traveled the world playing their music. The band has performed at the Targhee Bluegrass Festival in Alta, Wyo., the River Roots Festival in Missoula, and it has been a constant favorite at the Big Grass festival in Big Sky.
Lowell has toured and taught music extensively throughout the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and Europe. Murphy often joins him in Europe as a member of the John Lowell Band.
Wes Horton will be sitting in on bass for this special night of music. Horton is nearing the end of his second contract in Billings with Phillips 66, which makes this night even more special. Having been involved in the Billings music scene for the past two years, he leaves to return to Nashville in June.
“I’ve known these guys for a long time, and I’m excited about playing with them on the 21st. It’s going to be a great show,” Horton said in a press release.
“There’s nothing like playing with a bunch of good musicians who also are your friends,” said Lowell, who lives in Livingston. “We always play each song a little bit differently than the last time we played it, and have a great time doing it.”
“John is the primary songwriter and singer, but I write instrumental tunes that challenge the band,” mandolinist Murhpy said. “You never know what these guys are going to do on any one of them. It keeps things fresh.”
