Billings native’s new album takes off even before release

Chase McBride’s new album is “Cold Water.”

Singer-songwriter Chase McBride, a native of Billings and a 2007 graduate of West High, has a new album “Cold Water,” that will be available starting tomorrow on iTunes, Spotify and Google Play, as well as a limited vinyl release.

Even before its official release, the album was getting considerable attention. It was featured last week on EarMilk, a popular music blog, and included a video and a Soundcloud version of the single “On the Other Side.”

Within 24 hours, the single had made its way to EarMilk’s front page and had been shared more than 900 times.

“I’m blown away, and hopeful, as I’m a completely independent artist,” McBride said in an email.

The album was also featured on Performer, an article that includes upcoming show dates, none of them, alas, in Billings, though McBride does come home occasionally to perform, mostly at the Yellowstone Valley Brewing Co.’s Garage Pub.

That article says the album is made up of “live, full band performances of songs written in the wake of a heartbreak. Fans of Dawes, Vetiver, and Sean Hayes will enjoy McBride’s confessional lyrics, understated instrumental arrangements and earnest vocals.”
