Proud chicken advocate chimes in

In response to the recent article you posted in the Last Best News, “As Predicted, Chickens Coming Home to Roost” (Nov. 30, 2014), I take umbrage with your allegation that Billings City Council members were duped into supporting the Backyard Chicken Ordinance passed in August of 2012.

As a newly elected representative on the City Council at that time, representing the good and honest folk of Ward 3, I take great pride in my advocacy and vocal support of the equal rights of all chickens.  Whether urban, rural, pro-egg laying or anti-egg laying, plucked or unplucked, it is my adamant belief that ALL chickens are entitled to equal protection under the law.

This is clearly articulated within the Mission and the By-Laws of the Montana Society of the Equalization of Longneck Gizzard Breasted Tail Quailing. In the vernacular of the groovy people, better recognized as simply MSE-LGBTQ.

In the future I would expect an enlightened journalist such as you would be less cynical and more supportive of the City of Billings, and the Greater Yellowstone Equal System.  We are a city on the move as we continue on the path to Agricultural Acceptance.

With all due respect,

Becky Bird, council member, Ward 3
