This is great news. The Billings Gazette is reporting that Jason Corbridge has finally found a new home and will be opening a restaurant this fall.
Ever since Pete Tolton reported here early last winter that Corbridge was hoping to open a new restaurant this summer, we’ve heard countless rumors about where the restaurant would be.
Most of the rumors placed it on Montana Avenue, but now we find out that he is moving into the old George Henry’s building on Fourth Avenue North, just east of the tallest building in Montana.
Corbridge’s partner will be Henry Kennah, a chef whose most recent gig was at Jake’s. They sound like a good fit together, with financing coming from Greg Oliphant, another man with deep roots in the Billings restaurant scene.
Downtown Billings still has some fine places to eat, but a lot of us really miss Cafe DeCamp, Corbridge’s tiny little restaurant at 1404 Sixth Ave. N., which had previously housed Mamacita’s. Cafe DeCamp was known for a menu that was always changing and always full of wonderful surprises, so we can’t wait to see what Corbridge and Kennah cook up at their new place, Commons 1882.
One small correction on the Gazette article. It says Corbridge spent “several years” working in Billings restaurants after Cafe DeCamp closed. Though it may seem like years since DeCamp closed, it remained open until early February of 2013.
