John Warner, a photographer in Billings who has put his stamp all over Last Best News, won a high honor a few days ago.
National Geographic’s “Your Shot” competition drew nearly 11,000 submissions, of which 13 were chosen for display on National Geographic’s “Your Shot” Web page. John’s photo — a stunning shot of the Boulder River — was rated the best of the lot.
What made the competition especially challenging was that this wasn’t a case of asking to see the photographers’ favorite archival work. It was an assignment-based competition. The photographers had three weeks to shoot the photo, between June 9 and June 30, and the photo had to be taken within four hours after midnight.
Anyone who’s familiar with John’s work will not be surprised by the honor, but we’re really glad to see this kind of recognition. And don’t miss the bigger version of the photo, accompanied by John’s description.
