AA Football Tidbits – Week 7

Week 7 is upon us! Billings West and Butte remain undefeated, while Belgrade and Skyview are still in search of their first wins. Minty Coach sees that trend continuing this week. Read on to see what the AA has on tap for us this week.

Week 7 Match-ups…

  • Sentinel @ Hellgate
  • Belgrade @ Bozeman
  • Flathead @ Butte
  • West @ GFH
  • Senior @ Skyview
  • Helena High @ Glacier
  • Big Sky @ Capital
  • Bye – CMR

Minty’s Predicted Winners…

  • Hellgate
  • Bozeman
  • Butte
  • West
  • Senior
  • Glacier
  • Capital

Last Week: 5-2, Overall: 33-10

What To Watch For…

  • Game of the Week: Helena High @ Glacier. The Wolfpack is back to full health and it shows. The run game was strong last week against Hellgate and the threat of big runs eventually opened up the airways. Glacier connected on three deep balls behind the Hellgate coverage. Helena High, fresh off a win against Hellgate, welcomed previously winless Flathead High to town and ended up getting dumped 13-9. Both teams feature a talented front seven and bevy of athletes. Helena High is probably better throwing the ball and Glacier is the better ground team. Glacier is riding a two-game win streak and has some momentum. I like the Wolfpack this week.
  • Upset Special(s)
    • Flathead – This team is stronger than their record suggests. They have athletes, they’re tough and they’ve been getting better each week. Can they go into the Mining City and knock off the state’s #2 team?
    • Hellgate – The Knights are in need of a win to stop a two-game skid. They were tied up at 28 with the ball and five minutes to go last week against Glacier and couldn’t seal the deal as the Wolfpack went on to win 35-28. This week the Knights have a chance to earn their first city championship in several years when they tangle with the Sentinel Spartans. Sentinel is ranked #3 in the state with their only loss coming on a last-second field goal against Butte. The Knights have the athletes (re: Rollie Worster) now they just need to stop committing drive-killing penalties.

Minty Tidbits…

  • Butte High currently leads the state in total yards gained on offense with 3,074 (MaxPreps). The Bulldogs are about halfway to the 6,454 yards they gained on offense during the 2012 season. That is a Montana All-Class record and it was also the last time the Bulldogs claimed a state title (38-36 over Bozeman).
  • As previously mentioned, the Hellgate Knights and Sentinel Spartans will play for the city championship this Friday in the Garden City. Hellgate hasn’t won a city chipper since 1998, while the Spartans are the reigning city champs.
  • Will Dissly Watch: Well, no touchdown last week, but four receptions to the tune of eighty one yards isn’t too shabby.  Mr. Dissly has more touchdown snares than any other tight end in the league. Pretty cool to see a Montana dude representing!
