Quick Hit: MSU @ TTU
Beers Drank During Game: 5-6
Current Emotion: Sadly Satisfied?
So…. the game went basically how everyone thought it would. It’s hard to get into a game when from the opening possession you could tell that the teams were playing at two entirely different speeds. My Quick Hits:
Casey Bauman has a canon:
You could tell the nerves got to him. Throws into the turf and behind receivers were plentiful early. Bauman (like bombin’) settled in a bit and threw a great ball to Kevin Kassis and then a STRIKE to Coy Steel (shout out Sheridan, WY) for a TD that brought the Cats to within 7 in the 2nd quarter. You can see the talent and potential in this kid. He has a canon for an arm. I am excited to see him play against an FCS opponent.
Isaiah Ifanse looked good:
Ifanse broke loose on a couple runs en route to a 15 carry / 77 yard day highlighted by a 40 yard run in the 3rd quarter. He looked good (expert football term) and I am looking forward to seeing this kid’s sophomore campaign.
Our kicking team impressed
Tristan Bailey has a leg! Obviously he has two legs but his right one can kick really well. He missed from 46 but had plenty of leg and hit from 37. There won’t be many times where Cats will be out of FG range when they get inside their opponents 40. Jered Padmos punted way too many times today and it sucks to have to write about how good your punter is but he averaged nearly 52 yards on 9 punts. How he was overlooked in every pre-season conference/All-American team is crazy.
It looks like the Cats left healthy:
On the first punt coverage of the season Callahan O’Reilly got jacked up on a cheap blindside block and went down and I was already dreading the rest of the game injury-wise. He came back and had an impact and it appears that the Cats got out of TTU relatively unscathed. Thank God. Troy went down for a bit but it was just cramps, thank god.
Looking ahead:
Thanks for the $500K and the ass kicking, Texas Tech. I hope it felt good. Let’s get to next Saturday and an early season test against FCS #17 Southeast Missouri State. Maybe we’ll get an idea about this team after that game. Go Cats!
