Sacramento State is bad and the Bobcats should win on Saturday

This week, the Bobcats (2-2) travel to lowly Sacramento State (0-4).  Sacramento State has a terrible home field advantage (just 6,000 fans made it to the home opener) and they got a beat by Div-II Western Oregon to open the season, a team the Bobcats beat 55-0.  Coming into the season, the media ranked Sac. St. dead last in the Big Sky.  All signs point to a Bobcat victory, but should they be too confident?

Hot Take Nate (Cats fan): I feel like this week’s game for the Cats is another DII game.  There should be NO REASON that they don’t put up 30+ points on Sac State.

Bear Tycoon (Griz fan): The Bobcats defense if solid, and Sacramento State has struggled to move the ball.  They trotted Punter Nolan Merker out onto the field a league-high 10 times in their game against Fresno State, and then did it again in their game against Weber State.

Coach (Cats fan): I’m not as confident as you two.  The Hornets rank higher than the Cats in both rush offense and passing offense.  Passing is not saying much though… Cats are last and Sacramento State is second to last.

Their QB Nate Ketteringham is a real talent.  Coach Choate spent a lot of time during his Tuesday press conference singing his praises.  And they have some other offense weapons.  RB went for 154 yards on just FOUR ATTEMPTS in their loss to Idaho State, including a 91-yard run for a touchdown (longest in the Big Sky this season).

Interestingly, they’ve been decent at moving the ball, but rank last in scoring offense… big time problems punching it in when they need to.

I think the Cats are the better team even considering their struggles.  Anything can happen in conference games though, and I’ve heard we might be without Newell again.

I like the Cats to win in a close one, and I pray that we see either a different Bruggie OR finally see Murray get meaningful minutes. PLEASE GOD!

Bear Tycoon (Griz fan): Of course they are going to win.  Sacramento State is not a good football team.  Why in the world do you think it will be close?

Coach (Cats fan): Well, I had an interesting thought his morning in the shower (sorry for that mental image).  I was thinking of how one-dimensional and predictable and timid our offense is when it hit me: I AM THE MSU OFFENSE!!

I’ve always gone to bed early (predictable)

I’ve never been outgoing, in fact I only found my wife because I was drunk and had the courage to even talk to her (shy/timid) AND

I like things simple and easy. For instance, right now I’m eating two corn dogs, two pizza sticks and two bean and cheese burritos. I’ve had this same meal from Orange Street Food Farm multiple times because it’s quick, easy and affordable and reminds me of growing up in Great Falls and stopping by Schulte’s.

I’m telling you, I am a human replica of the Bobcat offense. They don’t throw deep EVER and always hit that safe little under route or dump to the RB. When they try to go big they usually strike out.  Just plain old average – like me.

Bear Tycoon (Griz fan): Let’s get one thing straight – that meal you described is not average.  If the Cat’s defense is as tough as your digestive system, Saturday will be a good day for Bobcat fans.
