Scary Match-ups
Last week was the first week that I went 0-2. Will I rebound this week or continue to regress to the mean?
The Griz have three games left on the road and the Cats must win three of their last four just to qualify for the playoffs. Every game from now on is extremely important with all the teams jumbled at the top of the bloated Big Sky Conference.
Montana State -8.5 at UND
The scariest thing you might see this Halloween is the Cats Defense. Yes, the Bobcats held lowly ETSU to 7 poiunts, but they still gave up 379 yards, which is the most yards ETSU has amassed all season (and that includes two games vs Division 3 schools). UND looked extremely one-dimensional against the Griz last week, but the Cats have struggled mightily against the run and the pass. I don’t think the Cats can win by more than a touchdown on the road.
Cats 44 UND 38 Cats win but don’t cover
Montana +3.5 at Portland State
This should be a very interesting match-up as the line opened at 6 but money came in on the Griz and lowered it to 3.5. Simis looked great against UND, a team that held PSU to 17 points. However, you usually can’t tell how good a QB is until his second or third game as the opposition will be able to view tape and adjust accordingly. Portland State has averaged 54 points in their last three games since being held to 17 by UND. This game will tell us a lot about the Griz, are they a contender or a somewhat talented team with a new coach that still needs to iron out a lot of kinks? I struggled with this pick, but will give the edge to PSU against a third string QB.
Portland State 31 Griz 24
Montana Parlay is 9-5 against the spread for the year.
