Cats D-flated
We talk about point spread a lot in these articles, it’s a great indication of what the bookies and the betting public think about the game. Another way to look at the game is called the money line. The money line is what you bet if you are only putting money on which team will win, no matter the score. If you were to put $1 on East Tennessee State to beat the Cats, and they came away with the upset, you would have $2000 dollars. Basically that says that East Tennessee State has a 1 in 2000 shot of beating the Cats (cue Griz fans everywhere laughing at MSU’s strength of schedule).
MSU -53.5 vs East Tennessee State
You read that correctly, if MSU holds ETSU to 10 points, then the Cats will have to score 64 or more to cover the spread. East Tennessee State is a brand new program and quite possibly the worst team in the FCS. Their average margin of defeat vs Division 1 teams is 45 and they have also lost to two Division 3 schools. The only thing this game accomplishes for the Cats is adding a W as they need 6 wins against Division 1 opponents to qualify for the playoffs. After the pathetic defensive performance against PSU the playoffs are the last thing on most football savvy Cat fans’ minds as a win over the Griz is the only thing left to root for. I have to take the points here.
MSU 62 East Tennessee State 13 Cats don’t cover.
Montana -13 vs North Dakota
The Big Sky Conference is hard to figure out this year and might be a complete mess at the top at the end of the season. One week you think you know which teams are good and then a team like North Dakota, who won at Portland State, turns around and loses at home to Idaho State. Montana needs to win this one to stay alive for a playoff bid but it will be tough to cover the 13 points with all the offensive issues they have had lately.
UM 24 UND 17 Griz win but don’t cover
Montana Parlay is 9-3 against the spread for the year.
