Montana Parlay: Week 3 – Rebound

Hopefully everyone enjoyed their Montana fall wedding weekend as both the Cats and Griz were off last week.

Both teams have some adjustments to make. The Griz obviously fell into the trap of the “letdown game” losing and only scoring 19 points at home.  The Cats won one of the ugliest games I have personally seen, and hopefully some of that had to do with the “not wanting to show EWU too much” strategy.  No matter what, it’s important not to become too irrational based on outcomes of early games, good or bad.

One thing I feel like we can all be irrationally angry about is the ridiculous amounts of Fan Duel and Draft Kings ads every damn time we try to watch a game, or anything for that matter. Their ads are inescapable and the funny thing is, we as Montanans can’t even partake. Some of you may know that fantasy football gambling has been a part of the Montana lotto system for some time now, and the state wants no part of online competition.

The only silver lining here is that Draft Kings and Fan Duel will battle things out long enough and to the point where no politicians can find ad space for the 2016 campaigns.

Montana State +14.5 at Eastern Washington

Wow. No Vernon Davis and the Cats are still more than two TD underdogs coming off a bye week and Eastern being beaten up by two tough road games. This game is so much more symbolic for the cats after losing in a shoot out at home last year. Cooper Kupp, who may be the best player in the FCS is battling a hip injury. As poorly as the Cats looked in the first half vs Fort Lewis, I have to take the points here. However, the point spread is a little misleading as oddsmakers have this game being pegged as the highest scoring of the weekend, whether FCS or FBS, with a predicted points total of 83. Two touchdowns aren’t much in a shootout of that magnitude.

Montana -3 at Liberty

Montana heads all the way to Lynchburg, Virginia to take on Liberty in what should be an interesting match-up. Just like the Cats, it’s the Grizzlies last game before conference play. I like the Griz here mostly because after a bye they can re-focus on Liberty and although the loss was tough to swallow, Cal Poly is probably the real deal. In fact, if you are a huge fan of FCS football, you need to keep an eye on the Cal Poly vs Northern Iowa (who is coming off a victory vs EWU) this weekend. The Griz have the confidence and the offensive ability to put up a lot of points here and perhaps the Cal Poly game was a good source of motivation.

Montana Parlay is 3-1 against the spread for the year.
