Montana Parlay: Griz In The Spotlight, No Respect From Vegas
The only college football game that matters this weekend, or is even on TV for that matter, features the Montana Grizzlies facing off against perennial power North Dakota State University (NDSU) and their Bison Faithful.
Before we get to the betting lines, you need to check out our piece on who you should root for if you are a Cat fan. (Full disclosure: I went to MSU, more on that below).
What’s the line? Do the Griz have a chance against the best team in the FCS four years running? Vegas and bettors say no: the line opened with the Griz as 14.5 point dogs and has moved up to 16. That’s a lot of disrespect for a solid program like UM playing at home, I don’t care who the opponent is.
The Griz are bringing a brand new offense to the table in the fly sweep and 25,000 crazy fans. NDSU has a perennially powerful defense and a pro-level QB (who happens to be 6’6″). This game could go so many different ways that I think anyone’s guess is exactly that, a guess.
My pick: Griz come out fast and furious, the Bison make some halftime adjustments and win by two scores pounding the boys from Montana into submission in the 4th quarter.
NDSU 34 UM 20….. Griz cover.
As for my take on who to root for:
There is no hiding that I’m a Cat fan and that the Cats have a little brother type relationship with the Griz. Griz fans will always say that they will root for the Cats outside of the brawl, but then are happy to rub any loss into their little brother’s face. Die hard Cat fans wouldn’t root for the Griz if they had to play a team made up of Hitler’s SS a la Victory. As for me, I was adopted into the Cat family. My father played for Caroll College and Rocky and usually rooted for the Griz, yet I had no real ties to either ‘big’ school in Montana. My first year at MSU I received a concussion while riding on the goal post after the mud bowl victory led by Lulay and MSU’s mighty defense (MSU with a defense???? Oh memories…). I was not a Cat fan during those miserable 16 years, thus I have a different perspective. It is interesting now as more and more people across Montana root for the Cats, leading long-time Cat fans to develop a complex about possibly being the bandwagon and Griz fans developing a victim complex about being possibly outnumbered. I will always root for the Cats, and usually root against the Griz, but at the end of the day, I will root for my betting interests. If gambling were legal….. Go Griz!
