Montana Pizza Sweet 16 Dominated by Top Seeds
After a flurry of last-minute votes, the Sweet Sixteen Montana Mint Pizza Championship Bracket is set. You can vote online here until 10pm on Sunday.
The top four seeds all advanced in the Sausage and Bacon Divisions. In the Sausage Division, the four teams facing off for a spot in the Final Four are #1 Howard’s (Great Falls), #4. Rosa’s (Bozeman), #3 Little Big Men (Lewistown), and #2 Ponderosa (Scobey).
The Bacon Division will see a matchup that includes #1 Moose’s (Kalispell), #4 Biga Pizza (Missoula), #3 Friday Night Pizza (Philipsburg), and #2 Mackenzie River Pizza (Everywhere). Biga Pizza clinched its spot after winning the closest race from round one, defeating Jane Dough’s (Joliet) and Guido’s (Billings) by 6 and 8 votes, respectively.
The Extra-Cheese Division saw the biggest upset of Round 1. The #11 seed Bum Steer out of tiny Flaxville knocked off #3 Tower Pizza (Missoula) and withstood a tough push from #14 Red Dog Saloon (Libby). They will face #1 Me Too Pizza (Culbertson), #4 Stageline (Great Falls), and #2 Nalivka’s (Havre).
Defending Champion #1 Eugene’s Pizza (Glasgow) advanced to the Sweet 16 in the Pepperoni Division, along with #3 Red Lodge Pizza Company, and #4 Iron Star Pizza (Big Timber), who mounted an impressive social media campaign effort. Joining them in the Sweet 16 is Stretch’s Pizza (Malta), which on the write-in fan vote competition. They narrowly edged out Fergie’s Pizza (Plentywood), Hangar Bar (Glasgow), and the Mighty Mo Brewery (Great Falls) for the last spot. (Pizza Hut, Costco, and Cenex received more write-in votes than we’d like to acknowledge).
The Montana Mint Pizza Championship Bracket started with 60 teams, and is now down to the final 16. Voting for the final four will start next week.
