Vote Now: Montana Pizza Bracket Sweet 16
Like the real March Madness, the MT Pizza Bracket saw some upsets, some close races, and some dominant performances from the top seeds. The biggest upset of the weekend was Rosa’s Pizza of Bozeman knocking of #1 seed Gallicano’s of Anaconda. Gallicano’s was a HEAVY favorite to make the Final Four out of the Pepperoni Division. Other surprises included #15 seed The Pit Stop out of Lincoln knocking off Vu Villa Pizza in Butte, and #13 Me Too Pizza out of Culbertson getting past Tarantinos.
Here is what to look out for in the Sweet 16:
Pepperoni Division: The Pepperoni Division is up for grabs in a showdown between Rosa’s Pizza of big city Bozeman and Eugene’s out of scrappy Glasgow. Our readers overwhelmingly seem to think we underseeded Eugene’s in the bracket, so a Final Four appearance may not be a surprise. A win by either Lewistown’s Little Big Men or Guido’s of Billings would be a major upset, according to the Montana Mint’s pizza experts.
Sausage Division: No pizza place received more votes than Howard’s of Great Falls. Their #1 seed coupled with their dominant performance has them as the favorite to advance to the Final Four. Standing in their way is McKenzie River Pizza, a statewide darling serving pies all over the Treasure State, the Ponderosa out of Scobey, a small town pizza joint with Championship dreams, and Iron Star Pizza Company from Big Timber, who’s Facebook fans came up big in round 1.
The Bacon Division: Small towns make good pizza, at least according to the Bacon Division. Nalivka’s (Havre), Pizza Co (Red Lodge), and Friday Night Pizza (Phillipsburg) all advanced to the Sweet 16. Joining them there is Bullman’s, which has shops in Billings, Kalispell, and Helena. Will pizza quality or town size determine who moves on to the Final Four?
Extra Cheese Division: Moose’s in Kalispell is a force in the Montana pizza world. They received more votes than anyone besides Howard’s, and normally would be viewed as a favorite to move on. But in an interesting development, Biga Pizza was the only Missoula pizza place to advance to the Sweet 16. Can the city of Missoula unite behind Biga to take on the favorite from the Flathead?
